Dr. Matt Newman, Senior Admissions Consultant

Dr. Matt Newman has worked for more than a decade in academic advising and undergraduate and graduate admissions. As a Senior Admissions Consultant, Dr. Newman advises high school students on academic and extracurricular planning, crafting vibrant essays, and interviewing. Dr. Newman also helps students obtain research and internship opportunities and perfect their time-management, organizational, and study skills so that they can reach their college admissions goals. As a doctoral student at the University of Michigan, Dr. Newman was involved in student recruitment and admissions processes, an experience that helped to cultivate his understanding of admissions intricacies from the university perspective.

Before arriving at Spark Admissions, Dr. Newman was a university researcher and college faculty member, during which time he advised and taught writing to first-year students. He found teaching students to craft thoughtful, lucid essays truly delightful, and he’s thrilled to continue this enterprise at Spark. In addition, Dr. Newman has served as an admissions consultant, advising students on transfer admissions and graduate school admissions. A former soccer player at Yale University, Dr. Newman also works with student-athletes to find colleges that fit their aspirations both academically and athletically, and he helps guide them through the recruitment process.

Dr. Newman earned his B.A. at Yale University and a Ph.D. at the University of Michigan. He lives in Boston, MA, with his pitbull, Cherry.
