Learning Differences and College Admissions

Admissions strategy tailored to your child’s learning style

We know students learn in different ways. But when it comes to college admissions, it’s not always obvious how different learning styles can—and should—affect a family’s approach.

Spark Admissions college consultants have years of experience providing thoughtful, knowledgeable guidance on navigating college admissions with a nontraditional learning style. In fact, a significant percentage of our students have learning differences. We are expert academic advisors who provide comprehensive counsel to students with ADHD, dyslexia, executive functioning challenges, test anxiety, and more.

Whether your child would benefit from structured, consistent meetings to accomplish college-related goals, or may be best served by attending a college or university with outstanding student support services, we are here to help serve your family’s needs.

Success Stories

We’ve helped countless students find, apply to, and gain admission at colleges and universities that are the right fit for their learning styles.

Nina*

Nina came to Spark Admissions as a high school junior who had recently been diagnosed with dyslexia—a learning difference typically identified much earlier in life.

The diagnosis explained why, despite being an exceptionally smart student with a stellar profile, Nina struggled with her test scores and the extensive reading in her advanced placement classes.

Not defeated, Nina had high aspirations for both college and her career. Her parents turned to Spark Admissions for a personalized plan to help her achieve her admissions goals.

What We Did

Nina’s Spark Admissions counselor:

  • Worked with her to tailor an application strategy that fit her personality, academic strengths, and passion for gender and women’s studies;
  • Pivoted to a new standardized testing plan through which Nina improved her test results;
  • Suggested classes to help Nina round out her academic profile during senior year;
  • Provided guidance as she identified and secured an internship and college-level coursework that helped her deepen and further develop her interest areas;
  • Worked with Nina to evaluate and prioritize her college list based on her learning style and academic goals;
  • Helped her contextualize her late diagnosis on college applications and use it to demonstrate her perseverance, positive attitude and desire to inspire other women.

Admissions Result

Nina was accepted to Tufts University, her top-choice school, as well as Wesleyan University and the University of Connecticut.
